What is the Eligibility Criteria for Returning Residents?

Under Jamaican law, you must:

  • Be a Jamaican national aged 18 or above who a)Was resident overseas for the last 3 consecutive years b)Is returning to Jamaica to live permanently
  • Be a non-Jamaican whose spouse is a Jamaican Retuning Resident;
  • Be a Jamaican student who has reached 18 years and who studied abroad for more than one year but less than 3 consecutive years;
  • Be a Jamaican who gave up his/her citizenship (and can prove the previous status) and wishes to return home.



To be eligible as a Returning Resident and the concessions, you need to meet at least one of the aforementioned criteria.

IMPORTANT NOTE

The applicants that do qualify can only benefit once from this concession.

  • What Documents Would I Need?

    You would require:

    • A valid Jamaican passport
    • A foreign passport with Unconditional Landing Stamp

    Upon arrival of the shipment in Jamaica, you will need to present the following documents after arrival:

    • Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN)
    • Unaccompanied Baggage Declaration Form (C27) obtained at the airport on arrival in Jamaica
    • Validated Bill of Lading or Airway Bill — collected from local shipping agent

    Other documentation includes:

  • Proof That You Resided Overseas For the Last Three Years

    • Evidence of disposal of property (e.g., Sales Agreement)
    • Letter of separation from employer
    • Pay stubs
    • Pension advice and social security letter
    • Tax returns for the last three consecutive years
  • Proof of Intention to Return To Jamaica Permanently

    • Contract or letter of employment
    • Evidence of property owned in Jamaica
    • Rental contract or rent receipt
  • Returning Student

    • Identification card
    • Letter confirming attendance
    • Transcript
